The Phantom - The most real fictional Hero

I have to start this post by thanking my dad for having got me and Susie develop comics reading habit very early in life. Before Tinkle, our most favorite books were The Phantom and Mandrake, the magician . While Mandrake's superhero powers included universally appealing magic, the Phantom relied on his body strength and intelligence to tackle the baddies ! That's why he was special. He didn't have super powers or fancy weapons. All he had was his masculine strength and the mysterious aura around him. Now there are a number of reasons why the Phantom is my favorite fictional hero .Here are some - 1. He isn't immortal - Although jungle legends made him seem immortal, the Phantom was a human just like you and me. The present Kit Walker is the 21st in line of all the generations that dedicated their lives to the well-being of Denkali ( I read the Indian editions, so I aint gonna call it Bangala). Right from the first Christopher Walker who swore vengeance having

How I Watched a MOTHERload of Bullshit for 9 years (or How the Mother of All Craps ate us up part –by-part for 9 years, you pick)

(Before you read further, this is not an outrageous rant of a frustrated Fan! Please note that I am no longer a Fan and I have burnt all the DVDs in literal sense and not in the copying-the-data-to sense!) Ok, Its official. The writers of HIMYM are the worst bunch of story tellers of all times. What a MOTHERload of crap! They should have named the finale "LOST forever" and not "Last forever"!This surpasses the supreme level of bullshit set by 2 Broke Girls and Anger Management! What were they thinking? Lets write about love and ruin it all in one blasphemous, sucking-at-multiple-levels, buttload of dinosaour crap of a stupid, stupid episode! (This should have been the end of all of it  -  http://hollywoodlife.com/2014/04/02/how-i-met-your-mother-alternate-ending-fanmade-video-watch/ ) When they revealed the mom, I thought, Now there is something realistic. Whatever she looked like, how much ever she received flaks for not being Robin-isque, I still loved th

Counterculturism and Musical Revivalism - Need of The Hour!

Is Rock n Roll dead? Should anybody do anything about it? Are ideologies shifting? Can Philosophies change? Could one of the reasons why Rock n roll has taken a backseat be that the other genres are gaining more popularity? Experimental music has come down drastically with the Gen Y embracing the melodious, sweet songs that are restricted, clustered and congested. This being the scenario, we should look back on what happened in the 60s, what happened when the rock music geniuses without any apprehensions gave their music wings, when they reached horizons and beyond with their experiments. I am no music critic or a marvel, but as a layman in love with Rock n Roll, I think this is when we should all set aside some time and listen to the gems that were created eons ago. What was it that paved way for the rockstars to explore and use their whimsical, musical superpowers? Counterculture - now that s something only courageous people can do .. Rebels, the ones that have confidenc

Alice, a Surprise Muse of Psychedelic Rock Stars

Photo from here - http://i.ytimg.com/vi/_ZSLGTqUl7U/maxresdefault.jpg When I say, Alice in Wonderland, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Mad hatter? Queen of Hearts? Rabbit Hole? Hookah-smoker Caterpillar? Tea Party? And what else? A trippy trip down a kaleidoscopic world? It is exactly these elements that made Alice and her Wonderland a very familiar place for all the hipsters. Who would have thought Lewis Carroll’s innocent tale for children (the article here - http://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/lewis-carrolls-shifting-reputation-9432378/ - says otherwise, but let us delve into it some other day when we are in the mood for a “tea party”) would inspire so many psychedelic songs, the world he created would become a happy place for the drug snuffling musicians of the 60s, 70s and the 80s? When I first listened to Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit” from their 60’s album “Surrealistic Pillow”, I assumed that it could be a description of how Grace S

Things "Desperate Housewives" Taught Me:

In the wake of Eva Longoria being named Maxim's "Woman of the Year", I am teleported back to the era of " Desperate Housewives ”. It’s been 2 years now since the show ended but the women of Wisteria lane still remain in our memories as the strongest women ever created on TV. Though it mostly belonged to a thriller-drama genre, it was considered a comedy too. There were some serious moments, some very funny ones, some absolutely deliriously painful moments and some emotional ones. Let’s relive some of those diverse moments now in the form of a list of life lessons each of these witty and glamorous housewives taught us: 1. Things Gabby taught us: a. It’s okay to love oneself - You know who I am talking about - the narcissistic yet affable Gabriel Solis. So what if she spent hours doing yoga, so what if she had a room full of clothes and shoes, so what if she cheated on her husband, so what if she lied occasionally? She did em all to keep herself h

The TV Shows That Should Have Run Longer!

With the arrival of TV’s new fall season, I am reminded of the shows that got cancelled after a season or two despite having a good first season. Its so sad, because some of them had some great moments, some resplendent and some witty and very infectiously funny moments! Why the networks chose to cancel these shows is a mystery since crappy shows like 2 broke girls (did any of you find the second season funny? Or appealing to common sense in any way?), Anger Management (sorry Sir Charlie, the show is a ball of mess –with its cringe worthy jokes) are still on. Here are some of the shows I think deserved at least 8 seasons run! 1.    Go On: Trust me, I thought this show would give Perry a chance to be known as something other than Chandler Muriel Bing. Mathew’s portrayal of a widowed guy, who s in the process of finding ways to move on in life, was worthy of an Emmy nomination. The guy knew when to make you laugh, when to make you cry and evoke whole other range of

RIP Cory Montieth – You will be missed dearly

Last week brought such a shock to the Gleeks all over the world! Just when we thought Rachel and Finn were going to marry on Glee, Cory’s untimely death shattered it all for us. I am still mourning the loss of one of the best singers of our generation. I am still saddened by the fact that Cory destroyed it all for himself. Who am I to speak, I know. But it’s still very unsettling. The fact that he was on heroine and alcohol!  It is very sad that people lose control upon getting addicted to substances. But when god has given it all and the going is good, you would expect people to enjoy that while it lasts. God should have added “control” to his list of giving for Cory . Anyways, here are my top 3 moments of Finn Hudson from Glee. 1.        Rachel, please don't do this. You're beautiful      Yes, the awww moment is one of the best moments on TV. Finn’s love for Rachel was reflected in  acceptance of who she was. When she tried to get her nose job done, to l
