Glee Season 4 : History Repeating, Literally!!

Seems like Glee writers really don’t have much of a story to tell ! Season 4 is an evidence to this fact. When Glee first started, it was highly appreciated for its fresh approach towards making something different – a Musical. It changed the whole perspective of Glee clubs in schools. I really loved the show’s format and was into the mashups they created. But now it seems like the new season is nothing but old wine in a new bottle as the same story is being retold with new faces! So there was this loser guy who wanted to bring a revolution of sorts by trying to get kids enroll in a Glee club ( Mr . Shuester), and an underdog (Rachel) who was tremendously talented but lacked oomph!  And she was in love with this famous dude ( Finn ). And there was this mean  cheerleader ( Quinn ) whose objective in life was to keep the underdog away from the man she is in love with – yes the same famous dude .  Then there was this black kid who was really re

Scene and Character lifts from older sitcoms to the newer

Some directors and writers take a huge influence from older TV serials and movies. This is apparent in the character and scene lifts in the newer TV sitcoms today. There is no answer to why these lifts weren’t argued against by the original makers. I mean, of course imitation is the highest form of flattery but sometimes it irks.. Doesn't it? Here are a few characters’ traits and scenes  that have inspired newer sitcoms. 1. Danny Tanner and Monica Before Monica became the idol for all cleanliness freaks out there, DannyTanner was known for his OCD of cleaning. He can even be seen cleaning leaves of his garden! The man was so obsessed about cleaning that he even cleaned his cleaning liquid bottles (notice how many times I have used “clean” there?). There is a scene in season 9 of FRIENDS where Mon could be seen cleaning a big vacuum cleaner with a smaller one. This scene is directly lifted from one of the Full House episodes (will list the season and episode when I r

"Mondler" - The Best Couple On TV

For F.R.I.E.N.D.S fans, deciding upon who the best couple on the show still remains a bone of contention. For some its Ross and Rachel and for others its Monica and Chandler. I belong to the “others” part of the above statement. Yes, Ross and Rachel were perfect and Mon and Chan were not! And that s what exactly makes their chemistry strong. The first time I thought they could make an awesome couple was when I watched the episode in season 1 where Carol’s having Ross’s baby. There is a scene where Mon is emotional about being single. That is when Chandler proposes of marrying her if neither of them is married by the time they are 40! I thought that was very sweet of him. The 4 th season again has a scene where Mon is again emotional for being single (having been broken off with her billionaire boyfriend Pete). That’s when Chan says something like “worse comes to worse, I ll be your boyfriend”.. (I went “awwwwww…”)! I mean Mon laughs hysterically when he says that bu

2 Broke Girls - So Broke, You ll Feel Better about your Life! ;)

It's hard to find writers like Whitney Cummings today. I am a fan of her sitcom 2 Broke Girls and find it very interesting and super funny. Kat Dennings is especially at her best. I had seen her before in “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist”, which is one bomb diggity movie. Kat’s character Norah is so mellow in the movie that it really surprises you to see her in Max’s avatar on the show. The best thing about the show is undoubtedly its story line. We all have heard about “rags-to-riches” stories but this one is just the opposite. Caroline, played by Beth Behrs , is the daughter of a formerly wealthy man, who because of Ponzy scam is in a prison. So accustomed is she to her wealthy life that she thinks Max’s “frugal” ly designed apartment is “robbed” when she first moves in. That particular scene was enough for me to know that the show is really, I mean REALLY funny! You will hear Caroline say “Max’s Homemade Cupcakes” at least thrice every episode (after th

Shit! Kristen pulls a Jolie!

Wow! Just when I thought there does exist a fairytale romance in real life, kaboom !, The bomb of reality explodes . Yes, I am referring to the latest news about Kristen Stewart cheating on Robert Pattinson . I am sure you would think I am writing this for the sake of it. But I watched The Breaking Dawn part 1 just this morning and was so into it. And of course, I loved the marriage scene between Edward and Bella and sighed “Wow! Perfect! A match made in heaven”! Is it really that hard to be in a relationship without cheating on each other? I mean, why? Why oh why did Kristen have to pull a Jolie  ? She and Rob were so damn beautiful together. Sure it might work if he decides to put it all behind but it won't be the same, would it? You might ask who am I to comment, but trust me. It is not so easy. Regaining the trust once lost! It isn’t fair. You know. They both were my definition of perfection even though I became a Twilight fanatic very late. I initially liked Ja

Top 5 Cult TV Characters

It is kind of a given that most viewers are influenced by the kind of cinema or TV shows they watch. One of the many reasons behind this, can be the fact that these programs sometimes preach us a lot of things besides just being the subjects of entertainment. People, at certain points start relating their lives to these TV shows or movies as characters these days are created very close to reality. Such being the scenario, there are a few TV characters that have millions of followers literally worshipping them and every word they say. Here is my list of top 5 cult TV figures. 1.        Barney Stinson- How I Met Your Mother So the sitcom is actually about Ted, who narrates a series of episodes to his children about how he met their mother (duh!). But more than Ted, it is the character of Niel Patrick Harris , Barney Stinoson that caught all the attention. This guy is weird like heck and creates his own pseudo- theories (like “The Lemon Law”) and stories (“True story” rea

Kidman, Cruise and The Law Of Karma!

When Katie Homes ditched her husband of 8 years Tom Cruise , am sure many of us thought about the same situation that happened with Nicole Kidman and Tom only roles reversed. Well I sure don’t know much or I must say anything about Scientology but I sure do a lot about Karma. I mean of course there is nothing much to understand as the philosophy can be summed up in one line- what goes around, comes back around. Tom’s life is one hell of an example for how Karma works. He left his then wife Kidman for apparently no solid reason. He impregnated her, forgot his duties, cited “irreconcilable differences” as the basis for the divorce and got out of her life. Just like that! Three months later she had a miscarriage and the pathos the woman went through can’t be imagined. Crying for him on a certain TV show, she said she will always love him. And 14 years later here he is going through the same situation again. Only difference being, him on the receiving end. Now nobody is s

Truth Unveiling Rappers!

I am so flabbergasted at the power of the internet and Globalization. They have together opened us up to a vastness of cultural diversity that exists within the world as a whole. Being one of the proudest members of the MTV and VH1 generation, I’d like to write about the genre of music that moves me the most- Rap. To be honest I did not like rap music at first. I still remember the first time I listened to Eminem’s “real slim shady”. My bestest friend Sarah’s brother is a fan of Eminem and he often listened to his tapes. I remember asking Sarah what in the name of god the noise was! But little did I know back then, I would become a sucker for the “noise” too! Here are my favorites.  Lose yourself- Eminem The very first rap that made me realize that there was something beyond the rhythmic music associated with it was Eminem’s “Lose yourself”. I mean he is such a “godlike” cult figure and still expresses the nervousness he has to face before performing

Why I miss the 90s?

Life has become simpler today. Technology has made everything look easier and more interesting. You can browse for any kind of information, buy and sell things on the net, take pictures on your cell phone and even “ hangout ” with your friends on popular social networking sites without having to be in any physical space! While of course all these changes have been very beneficial for the human kind, there are certain issues I have with this technologically advanced era! Having been of a generation born in the 80s, I love a lot of things about a whole decade that passed by which marked the end of a century. If technology comes up with a time machine, which does seem like a potential reality, I would want to go back to the 90s and enjoy the simple pleasures life offered. Here are a few things that I miss very strongly of the wonder years. Those were the games… I remember coming home from school and running to my best friend’s place to play both in-door and outdoo

Lost in Translation - Everyone wants to be found!

Acclaimed writer and director Sophia Cappola’s second movie “ Lost in Translation ” is a masterwork of modern times. It emerged as a winner among both audiences and critics alike after its release in 2005. The movie shot entirely in Japan is a sardonic take on the lives of two complete strangers Bob Harris (Murray) and Charlotte ( Scarlett Johansson ). Bob is an actor whose personal and professional lives have become stagnated. With only little hope of reviving he accepts a $ 2 million whiskey commercial deal to be shot in Tokyo. Charlotte is a newlywed who has accompanied her photographer husband to Tokyo where he has a photo shoot assignment. Both Bob and Charlotte suffer the cultural shock silently until they meet each other. They both hit it off instantly and become good friends.  They spill out their life stories to one another. Within the one week of bob’s stay there, Charlotte takes him to her crazy friends who make the whole experience seem adventurous.  They enj

Jodie Sweetin and the “Growing- Up Pains” Theory

When I take Jodie Sweetin's name ( @JodieTweetin ) , I am sure there are only two things that come to your minds: one her successful career as Stephanie Tanner in the 90’s sitcom “full house”, the second is her infamous meth addiction. I am reminded of a monologue from the recent hit “ The vow ” to explain why these are the only two things people remember of her. It goes something like this “the sum of all the moments of impacts make us what we are”. So in this case, her huge moments of impact were delivering absolutely wonderful performances as a kid and forgetting what to do after she became, as she puts it, “jobless at the age of thirteen”! The reason behind her second “moment of impact” – the “growing up pains” theory There is a theory regarding child actors growing up to be not so popular individuals. I am just gonna call it “the growin up pains” theory (Yeah, yeah I know it sounds like Kirk Cameron’s popular sitcom "Growing pains").They say people
